ONPASSIVE Metro Station Renamed Garmin

The ONPASSIVE metro station, which is on the red line and in the Al Safa area of Dubai, has been renamed Garmin after the RTA entered a 10 year deal with the company for the naming rights of the station.

You may remember that this station was only renamed ONPASSIVE in 2023 when they also entered into a 10 year naming rights deal.

It looks like a break clause in the deal may have been activated and on further investigation this could be to do with legal action that was taken against ONPASSIVE in the US. The legal action started in 2023 but concluded recently (June 2026) with them being ordered to pay $31m.

According to the SEC, the complaint filed on 6th November 2023 alleged that

from July 2018 to at least the date of the Amended Complaint, the Defendants violated federal securities laws by engaging in an illegal pyramid scheme and making materially false and misleading statements to investors in the United States and around the world.

The judgment from the US courts may have meant that they were unable to continue with the sponsorship of the metro station and that the rights to that station were put out to tender again.

That particular station has had a few names in the past. When the station first opened in 2010 it was called Noor Islamic Bank. This subtly changed to Noor Bank along the way and then to Al Safa in 2020, presumably when the 10 year deal with Noor Bank had finished. As Al Safa is actually the name of the area where it is located there may have been a period when nobody had taken up the naming rights of the station until ONPASSIVE took it on in 2023.

Now Garmin (yes, the GPS and smart device company) has the naming rights, bought by the sole distributer of their products in the UAE, AMIT Retail. The station will be renamed Garmin Metro Station and signage etc. will be updated to reflect this.
