Dubai Metro tickets must be purchased in the form of a Nol card. No other payment form is possible for the Metro. A Nol card is like a credit card that holds either a balance or a specific season ticket for travelling on a lot of the public transport in Dubai including the Metro, buses and the tram.
There are different types of Nol card so check out the section on Nol cards for which type of card is best for you. If you want to get a ticket for the Dubai Metro then you can buy Nol cards at all of the metro stations. You can also buy Nol cards at any other public transport stations and customer service centres.
No Cash Payments
You cannot pay by cash or credit card to travel on the Dubai Metro, you need to buy a Nol card. However, you can top your Nol card up using cash or credit card at each of the stations.
The prices for travel on the Dubai Metro, Tram and Buses are as follows:
| Ticket Type | 1 Zone or <3km 2 zones | 2 Zones | 3+ Zones |
| Standard Adult Ticket (Red) | 4 dirhams | 6 dirhams | 8.50 dirhams |
| Pre-paid Standard Adult Ticket (Silver Nol) | 3 dirhams | 5 dirhams | 7.50 dirhams |
| Concessionary (Blue Nol Card) | 1.50 dirhams | 2.50 dirhams | 3.75 dirhams |
| Gold Class (Red Ticket) | 8 dirhams | 12 dirhams | 17 dirhams |
| Gold Class Pre-Paid | 6 dirhams | 10 dirhams | 15 dirhams |
You can work out how many zones you will travel through by checking out the Metro Map. Prices apply to the number of zones and do not take account of the actual zone numbers.
Standard tickets are those purchased by buying a red Nol card so are likely to be those charged to tourists or visitors. Pre-paid means where you have purchased a Silver, Blue or Gold Nol card.
Concessionary Nol cards are available to students, disabled and elderly people on registration and application. Standard Blue Nol cards have benefits including the purchase of season tickets.
Season Tickets
New season ticket passes were introduced with the opening of the Dubai Tram in 2014 and the prices are as follows:
| Ticket Type | 1 Zone | 2 Zones | All Zones |
| Annual Silver Class | 1,060 dirhams | 1,770 dirhams | 2,670 dirhams |
| Quarterly Silver Class | 330 dirhams | 550 dirhams | 830 dirhams |
| Monthly Silver Class | 140 dirhams | 230 dirhams | 350 dirhams |
| Weekly Silver Class | 50 dirhams | 80 dirhams | 110 dirhams |
| Daily Silver Class | 20 dirhams | ||
| Annual Gold Class | 2,120 dirhams | 3,540 dirhams | 5,340 dirhams |
| Quarterly Gold Class | 660 dirhams | 1,100 dirhams | 1,660 dirhams |
| Monthly Gold Class | 280 dirhams | 460 dirhams | 700 dirhams |
| Weekly Gold Class | 100 dirhams | 160 dirhams | 220 dirhams |
| Daily Gold Class | 40 dirhams |
Metro One Day Pass or Not?
You should work out how many journeys you are likely to make in one day as a one day pass may be better. The one day pass also includes travel on the Dubai Tram and Dubai buses.
If you do not purchase a one day ticket you can still get charged more than 20 dirhams if you make a lot of journeys as travel is not capped at 20 dirhams unless you buy the one day ticket. You can find out more details about the One Day pass here.
The above tickets can only be purchased on particular Nol cards:
You can get the one day card on a Red ticket. You can get the weekly ticket on a Blue, Silver or Gold Nol card.
You can charge the Red ticket with up to 5 one day tickets – you need to buy each ticket on the day of travel and not in advance and it is only valid up until midnight of the day of purchase.
The remaining season tickets can only be purchased on a Blue Nol Card or a registered Silver or Gold Nol card. Blue cards require an application form with ID and photo.
Therefore if you are travelling to Dubai as a visitor your only options for a season ticket are the day or weekly passes.
Hey:)
Can i still top up my Nol gold card with 7 or 14 day pass like in 2019 (i’m not resident) so i got Turist
Pass. If yes what is price difference and what is the price.
Many Thanks
Paul
Hi, yes you can get a 7 day pass on the gold card. There is no 14 day pass so you need to get 2 seven day passes. Prices shown above.
I pay for 1 month for gold pass 31 March 2020 . It is for full month of April but I did not use now even on the bus because I work from home since Dubai metro temporary stop. May I ask if you can consider to extend my nol card as soon as Dubai metro will operate. 700 dirhams was huge amount and this time I need to search a new job.
Hi Charity, this site is not run by the RTA so you should contact them directly to apply for a refund of your monthly ticket.
Hi Admin,
Thank you for answering so many questions here.
I would arrive to Dubai together with my family (children are 11 and 7 years old) and we would like to travel through Dubai using metro during our 7 days stay.
Probably on the first and on the last day we would need 3 zones (because of the airport) and all the other days 2 zones.
What would be the best alternative for us? Silver weekly card for all 4 of us? Do the children pay full price?
Is it possible to buy these cards at the airport?
I have heard that man and women need to travel separately in metro. How about families (father, mother and 2 kids)? Does it mean that father needs to travel in a separate wagon from mother and kids?
Sorry for so many questions but I was never in Dubai and we would like to visit that city very much…
Thank you very much!
Hi Pedja, firstly yes the children pay full fare. If you are going to do more than 20 journeys in the week even just in 2 zones then it is probably worth paying for the weekly ticket. You can buy the nol cards at various places including the airport Metro station. There is a separate carriage for women and children but you don’t have to travel in it – as a family you can travel in the main carriages. It is only if you travel in that special carriage your husband would need to travel in the other carriages.
Thank you very much Admin for your quick reply.
The final question – Does Silver weekly card covers all way of transportaion (metro, tram, bus) during these 7 days?
Thank you very, very much!
Yes it does!
Hi Admin, I want to travel on metro from Zone 5 to Zone 6 for one day (Just one time go and return back after approx. 4 to 5 hrs). Which metro ticket is best for me? Plz reply.
Hi, you can just buy a red nol ticket and load it with the 2 journeys.
hi good evening im planning to come to dubai for the 3 months which nol card is best for me my stay will be near to abu bakar siddiq station please suggest me i travel mostly the every place of dubai
You will need to get a silver nol card and then you can decide to top it up either with travel cards or just with monetary value, depending on how often you are going to travel.
Hi Admin, I am planning to visit Dubai soon with my family. I have a 12 year old Kid with me. What metro card is most economically suitable for each one of us to travel around Dubai? Do I need to purchase 3+ zone ticket if I need to travel from Deira to Burj Khalifa ? Nizam
Hi Nizam, it dpends on how much you are going to use the Metro. For 10 journeys or less you may want to get a red Nol card each, or for more journeys than that, a silver Nol card each. Diera to Burj Khalifa is 2 zones (check the map here)

Hi Carrol, the silver Nol card costs 25 dirhams and you can use 19 dirhams on journeys (so cost of the card is 6 dirhams).

Recently I bough a Monthly Silver Class season ticket (350 dirhams) for metro. Is it possible to use the same card to travel in Bus also ?
Hi Benny yes you can use the pass to travel on the metro, bus and tram.
Hello Admin
We will arrive at Int. Airport and we will take Metro and Dubai Tram to our Hotel Sheraton Jumeirah Beach Resort.
Which is the best or right Ticket for us?
1 red standard for 8.50?
Or we need 2 red standard (1 for 8.50 for Metro and 1 for 4.00 for Dubai Tram??
Thanks Alice
Hi Alice, as long as you make the whole journey in one go then one ticket is fine. And yes red ticket is great if you are just doing a few journeys.
hi.for a tourist just want stay for a week and wanna going to any zone which nol card can be good?tnx
maybe i’ll have more than 3 trips in day with metro !!!
Hi Mohammad, you can get a weekly ticket for all zones which will allow you to go anywhere as often as you like.
Hi. I want to park my car at Rashidiya Metro and then travel to Business Bay MS. How much it will take for one side and how much time it will take. Also tell me that do I have to pay something for Car parking??
Car parking is free if used in conjunction with the Metro. An estimate of that journey is 30-40 minutes.
Hi
can you please advise how much will it cost me for monthly gold card traveling from Abu baker metro to jabel ali (damac) stations, daily up and down?
Hi Khan, I’m sorry we are not able to calculate individual ticket prices – you can do so by checking the prices shown above and referring to the map for zones.
How much the 2 zones (5 & 6 zones) for 3 months?
Thank you
Hi, all ticket prices are shown above.
Hello,
If I buy a silver Nol card on 16th March with weekly pass, it will be valid to 22nd March 00:00 right?
And is that weekly pass valid for bus 105 (for miracle garden) and 106( for global village)?
Yes that is right. No, our understanding is that those special routes are not covered by passes but you may wish to call the RTA to check.
