The government of Dubai has this week announced new rules regarding the wearing of face masks in the Emirate which reduced the number of places they need to be worn. However, you may be wondering – do you need to wear a mask on Dubai Metro?
The new rules came into effect today (September 2022) and mean that you don’t need to wear a mask anymore in a lot of places including in malls. Also, to the relief of a lot of parents, children are now not required to wear them in classrooms.
However, masks must still be worn on public transport and so they do need to be worn on the Dubai Metro as well as the tram, buses and taxis.
So don’t forget to take a mask with you when you are travelling on the metro or you may still be subject to a fine.
The announcement said the following:
“With regards to face masks, he [Dr. Saif Al Dhaheri, Official Spokesperson of the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA)] said that they are still mandatory in medical facilities, mosques and public transportation, as well as for food service providers, the injured and suspected cases to ensure the safety of the community, especially vulnerable groups.
Otherwise, wearing masks is optional for all other open and closed facilities and spaces, Dr. Al Dhaheri explained, advising senior citizens and residents and people with chronic diseases to continue wearing them to ensure their safety.”
